Few competitive events are more colorful and thrilling than boat racing, and the super-fast Volvo Ocean Race vessels will be in Boston Harbor and at Fan Pier for the enjoyment of crowds of residents and visitors for 10 days. Old sailing hands may be interested in the number and types of sails, the gear, and the shape of the keels, but the spring 2009 visit at the Boston stop will be an opportunity for boys and girls and other would-be sailors to learn the basics of life on the water in a world-class, fiercely competitive sport.
